This
large house for a Chinese family is designed on
Feng Shui principles. The orientation was
calculated according to Xuan Kong Feixing
(Flying Stars) method to achieve “Wang Shan
Wang Xiang” (timely Mountain Star and timely
Water Star). The main bedrooms and the kitchen
were located according to the occupiers’ Ming
Gua directions. The external and internal form
was designed to assemble the desirable Sheng Qi
and to minimise the harmful Sha Qi. It is a
modern house based on ancient principles.

The
building has 3 levels, comprising of 10
bedrooms, 2 studies, an indoor swimming pool
with a waterfall and a home theatre. The lower
level has 4 guest bedrooms, two bathrooms, a
study, a rumpus room and the theatre. It is
located only a stone’s throw from the
water’s edge. One can fish from the front
garden of the house.

The
middle level houses the Living, Dining, Family
and Kitchen with the indoor swimming pool
located to the rear of the house. It has a large
outdoor entertainment area, like the deck of an
ocean liner going out to sea. The view to Sydney
Harbour is magnificent at the front but
protected from the back. The main bedrooms on
the higher level all face the water.

The
materials used for the house are all organic and
natural. Natural Australian Stone for external
paving and cladding, face cavity brickwork for
the walls, French slate tiles for the roof with
copper down pipes and flashing, Italian Marble
and Australian Hardwood were used for interior
floors. Because of the proximity to salt water,
high-grade aluminium frames are used for
external windows and doors.

Although
the building is huge, it has an intimate feeling
and the owners are very happy with the result.
It is a good example of how to use the art of
Feng Shui as a design tool to create a pleasant
and responsive environment for our clients.
