The Principles and Applications of Xuan Kong Cures

  In the San Yuan Xuan Kong Feixing school of Feng Shui, the judgement for the auspiciousness and harmfulness of a star chart is based on the Bagua and the Wuxing theories, and the timeliness of the stars in a given situation. Once we understand the Bagua correlation and the Five Elements relationships we can use the same principles to prescribe the cures to change misfortunes and to dissolve the harmful Sha qi.

  It is generally more desirable to transform the Sha qi rather than to fight it. For example, if Earth is the agent that causes the harmfulness, then to weaken it with Metal is better than to fight it with Wood. Likewise, when Earth and Water are in conflict, we can use Metal to resolve the impasse because Metal will weaken Earth and at the same time generate Water to overcome the harmfulness of Earth.

  The following are some examples taken from Master Shen’s book “Zhai Yun Xin Au” (New cases of House Fortune). They all use the principles of Yin and Yang and the Wuxing (Five Elements or Agents) as a tool of transformation, which we call ‘cures’.

The original Chinese term for "cure" is "Jie-Hua", "Jie" is to explain, to interpret and to solve a problem, "Hua" is to change, to transform and to turn harm into good. So to "Jie-Hua"or to "cure" means we need to understand where the inblance of qi in a house lies, then use our knowledge and our understanding to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. The power of a "cure" does not lie in the object but in our interpretation and our response to the situation.

1.      2 is a star of courageous and vicious fighting and 5 Yellow is a star of misfortune. When coming across the 2, 7, 3 and 5 stars, we can transform their harmfulness by:

a)      Using 4 Green to handle 3 Jade, because 3 is Zhen Gua and the eldest son whilst 4 is Xun Gua and the eldest daughter. Son and daughter or male and female will complement each other and dissolve the harmfulness through harmony.

b)      To prevent 7 Red causing any troubles, we can use 8 White because 7 is Dui Gua and youngest daughter, whereas 8 is Gen Gua and youngest son. The Yin and Yang of daughter and son will again balance each other and lead to peace and harmony.

c)      When it comes to 2 Black, use 6 White because 2 Black is Kun Gua and mother while 6 White is Qian Gua and father. Naturally, mother and father will sort themselves out eventually and lead to peace.

d)      If we encounter the 5 Yellow, use 8 White Earth to transform its harmfulness because 8 White is Yin Earth (Chou or NE1 is Yin Earth Yuan Dragon) and 5 Yellow is Yang Earth (Wu in the centre is dry Yang Earth). Yin and Yang Earth will complement each other and lead to balance again.

2.      To cure 5 Yellow and 2 Black, use a clock that chimes (Metal and Metallic sound) to weaken the Earth. Also, 2 Black is Mother (Kun Gua) and when Mother hears the call of her child (7 is Metal and the youngest daughter in Dui Gua), she will come to her rescue and not exert her harmfulness on her child.

Alternatively, we can use a Metal wind chime with 6 tubes (5 plus one in the middle) and hang it where 5 Yellow or 2 Black is located because its metallic material and sound will weaken the harmfulness caused by Earth.

3.      To transform or cure the harmful 7 Red, put a large water tank in the area with 1 black fish in the water. 7 Red is Metal and 1 Black fish in a large volume of water is strong Water, which will weaken the perverse Metal.

4.      When Earlier Heaven Fire (2, 7 Fire Hetu Pairing) and later             Heaven Fire (9 Purple) flied to a pointed (also Fire) structure,      they will lead to fire disasters. We can use a square shaped structure (Earth) to weaken the harmful qi (due to imbalance of excessive Fire). Another method used in the past is to dig up some wet mud from the bottom of a well (very Yin Earth) and plaster it onto the pointed structure or point the mud facing the directions of the Fire elements.

5.      Hanging a yellow curtain or yellow blinds (Earth) will weaken the  harmful qi of the 9 Purple Fire.

6.      When a stove for a 4 Green Wood person is located in an area with a 7 Water star and a 2 Mountain star combination it will create many gossips and material loss (2, 7 Hetu pairing forms Fire and will weaken Green Wood). To save the situation, we can paint the furniture in this area black and use Water (represented by black colour) to generate more Wood to feed the Fire in order to maintain the balance.

  From the six examples given above, we can see the way to create cures (or transforming the harmfulness to auspiciousness) is to use the actual material, or the symbolic colour and shape of the Five Elements (or Agents) in our furnishing and design to transform any disasters or misfortunes created by an imbalance of the elements.

  The following is a summary of cures for various misfortunes:

  1. Cures for Sickness (1,2. 1,5. 1,8. 2,5. 2,6. 2,8.)

  Use metal bell, metal clock or metal wind chime to cure the 2 Black. Since Metal is a child of the Mother Earth, the sound of the metal is like the children calling their mother, and the mother will respond and be kind to her children. Therefore, carrying some metallic objects or listening to the sound of the bells or chimes will dissolve the sickness caused by Earth out of balance.

  2. Cures for Robbery (3,7. 6,7.)

  3,7 combination is called ‘heart piercing sha’ and 6,7 combination is called ‘sword fighting sha’. Their presence will lead to theft, robbery and injury caused by fighting. We can use a tank of water with one or six black fish in it as a cure.

  Alternatively, in the book “Zhai Yun Xin Au” mentioned earlier, a cure called “Au Ren Shui” (Tranquil Enduring Water) is prescribed. It consists of a glass bottle or a ceramic jar with some clean water and some salt, plus one silver and six copper coins in it. Seal this container tightly and its effect should be the same as the fish cure mentioned earlier. Another method is to use one or six ‘7 Stars’ fish (Chinese tropical fish) instead of one or six black fish.

  3. Cures for Fire Disasters (9,7. 9,6. 9,5. 2,7. Even worse when arriving at 3 or 4 Wood period)

  2,7 is Earlier Heaven Fire (Hetu pairing for Fire) and 9 is Later Heaven Fire (Luoshu number). When 2,7 or 9,7 fly into a direction with pointed corners or red coloured objects, there is potential for fire disasters. 9 with 5 Yellow will also lead to troubles.

  9,7 Fire is controlling Metal; therefore using square shaped earthenware (planters) will weaken the harmful Fire.

  9,5 is Fire generating Earth, making the 5 Yellow even more harmful. We have to use a copper or metal Hulu (Calabash) or 5 Emperors Coins (from the reigns of Shun Zhi, Kang Xi, Yong Zheng, Qian Long and Jia Qing) and use Metal to weaken the Earth qi. (See photo below.)

  2,7 combine to form Earlier Heaven Fire and this cure is the same as for 9,7.

  Apart from the cures mentioned, we can also use the “Au Ren Shui” (Tranquil and Enduring Water) method.

  4. Cures for 5 Yellow

  When 5 Yellow arrives at the yearly, monthly or daily star chart, its presence will lead to sickness, car accident, lawsuit, unexpected trouble, miscarriage and accidents and disasters of all kinds.

  The cures for it are: -

a)      Use a large copper (or metal) bell, or 6 small bells or a five plus one type metallic wind chime: possibly a 5-level set of bells or a bell that has the heart sutra written on it, hung in the direction of the 5 Yellow.

b)      Create movement qi in the direction of the 8 White, or use 8 White Earth (in the form of newly dug up soil or 8 small bottle each with a white stone in it) located in the direction of the 5 Yellow, using the Yin Earth of 8 White to harmonise with the Yang Earth of the 5 Yellow.

c)      Strike the prayer bells while reciting the Buddhist Sutra and use the metallic sound with chanting to weaken the harmful 5 Yellow Earth.

  5. Cures for Gossips and Law Suits (2,3. 3,8. 4,8. 4,3. 3,5.)

  2,3 and 3,8 are Fighting Bulls Sha and easily lead to legal punishments, especially 2,3; whereas 3,8 and 4,8 can lead to gossips, foot injury and stomach troubles. Since they result from Wood fighting Earth, we can use red decorations, like 9 numbers of red globes or red carpet to change their harmful effects on each other.

  6. Cures for Knife Injuries and Leg Troubles (6,4. 7,4. 6,3.)

  We can use the same cures as for (2) Cures for Robbery. Because Metal and Wood fighting each other cause them, we can use Water as cures to transform their harmfulness.

  For others, such as 1,9 where Water and Fire are in mutual control, we can use 4 paintbrushes or 4 strips of bamboo prayer sticks as cures. The intention is to use the 4,9 Hetu (Earlier Heaven Metal) to generate more Water, thus creating a more favourable condition for 1 White, the Tang Lang Star for success in Imperial Examinations.
