Course Outline - Professional Practitioners Course 2003:

UNIT 1 HISTORY, PHILOSOPHY & THEORY
June 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th 2003

 

This unit covers the foundation concepts and the language that form the basis of feng shui. We examine the traditional Chinese worldview, and the historical development of feng shui to the modern day, looking at the different classic schools. On completion of this unit you will gain an understanding of the feng shui paradigm, the language and basic theoretical ‘tools’ of feng shui, including the concepts of yin and yang, the five phases, the Bagua, the Luoshu and Hetu Diagrams.

UNIT 2 XING SHI PAI (FORM SCHOOL)

November 29th, 30th, December 6th, 7th, 2003

This unit teaches the theory and methodology of the Xing Shi Pai or ‘form’ school of feng shui. We will look at the history and the classic texts of this school. You will learn how to ‘chase the dragon’ (trace the path of qi to determine the best location and orientation of a site) and look for the ideal feng shui model in the natural landscape, the urban environment and inside buildings. The qi flow of buildings is analysed in relation to the function of different areas of the home. At the end of the unit you will gain an understanding of how qi flow in the environment can be read and how the qi of a building can be improved to empower the occupants lives, including the use of specific solutions that apply under different circumstances.

UNIT 3 BAZHAI PAI (EIGHT HOUSES SCHOOL)

to be advised for 2004

 

This unit covers the Bazhai Pai (Eight Houses School) system of charting auspicious and inauspicious sectors of a building according to compass directions. The methods of this feng shui school have been passed down since the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 AD). The system is used to correlate the pattern of an individual’s ‘luck’ with that of a building. We will look at the working of this method and examine how to apply solutions that balance the qi patterns of individuals and buildings in real examples. The Luopan compass will also be introduced.

UNIT 4 FEI XING PAI (FLYING STARS SCHOOL)

to be advised for 2004

 

This unit teaches the Xuan Kong Fei Xing Pai (Mysterious Void Flying Stars School) of feng shui. The methods of this school are believed to have been passed down by Guo Pu in the Jin Dynasty (265 – 420 AD). This system enables us to chart cycles of a building’s ‘destiny’ over time in relation to compass directions, in order to select appropriate cures and enhancements.

UNIT 5 PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES

March 1-2, 8-9 2003 

 

This final unit in the course is centred on drawing together the theory and techniques taught throughout the previous units. We look at the application of these ‘tools’ to the working environment, focusing on the development of ‘pattern thinking’, learning how to see solutions from a web of inter-relationships. The emphasis is on practical skills, including plan reading, presentation techniques, interview techniques and ethics.
